Wei Sansan

Wei Sansan  (b.1994) lives and works in Shanghai. She graduated with a master of arts in Fashion and Textiles at Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2021; she obtained her bachelor's degree from  Academy of the Art University in San Francisco in 2017. As an artist working in mixed media, Wei Sansan has consistently focused on the analysis, deconstruction, and reconstruction of materials as the main thread of her works, particularly in experimental explorations of textiles. In the past two years, the artist has shifted her perspective to investigate the relationship between found materials and the contemporary social contexts of popularity. She positions herself as a participant in these relationships rather than merely an observer, exploring the randomness and sense of surprise and conflict that arise between herself and objects in different contexts. Based on the characteristics of the materials, Wei Sansan employs methods such as bricolage, dyeing, and painting to transform and combine them, creating mixed-media works that often showcase a visual and psychological contrast to the main concepts.
