Gu Fangyuan, born in 1994 in Leshan, Sichuan, graduated with a master's degree from the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) in Milan, Italy, in 2023. She received her bachelor's degree from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2018. She currently works and lives in Shanghai and Sichuan. Her artistic practice explores the authentic and pure spiritual connections between the self, nature, and the world, using a variety of materials, including those that embody "locality," for artistic expression. Her works consistently present a "narrative tension that is both ritualistic and humorous." The free-spirited lines and bold colors interweave to create a strong emotional atmosphere, while her candid brushstrokes and sense of ritual clash to form wondrous spaces. In this contrast, the genuine spirituality and pure emotions bloom, revealing the perceptions of these authentic connections.
